OUR SOLUTIONS

At Unitracker Vehicle Solutions, we specialize in helping fleet operators and drivers meet the requirements of the Direct Vision Standard (DVS). With the increasing need for safer roads and compliant vehicles, we provide cutting-edge solutions to ensure your fleet operates legally and efficiently.

What is the Direct Vision Standard (DVS)?

The Direct Vision Standard is a safety initiative introduced by Transport for London (TfL) to improve road safety for vulnerable road users like pedestrians and cyclists. Vehicles over 12 tonnes must now meet DVS requirements by demonstrating adequate direct vision from the driver’s seat or risk being fined.

Why Choose Unitracker Vehicle Solutions?

Understanding the Direct Vision Standard (DVS)

The Direct Vision Standard (DVS), enforced by Transport for London (TfL), mandates that heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) over 12 tonnes require a permit to operate within Greater London. This regulation applies to both UK-based and international vehicles entering London. As of October 2024, the DVS has been updated to the Progressive Safe System (PSS).

Stay Compliant, Stay Ahead

Avoid fines and ensure your vehicles can operate freely in regulated areas. Unitracker Vehicle Solutions is here to make DVS compliance simple and stress-free.

Non-compliant vehicles operating without a permit can incur daily fines. Compliance systems like cameras and sensors ensure you meet regulations.

DVS STAR RATING SYSTEM

Each vehicle is assigned a ‘star rating’ from 0 to 5, reflecting the driver’s direct line of sight from the cab:

0 Stars: Minimal direct vision.

5 Stars: Excellent direct vision.

These ratings are determined based on the vehicle’s original design and do not account for any aftermarket safety systems installed. Vehicles with a rating below 3 stars must be equipped with additional safety equipment to qualify for a permit. Operating without a permit can result in substantial daily fines for both operators and drivers.

A: DVS applies to vehicles over 12 tonnes operating in Greater London. Vehicles must have a valid Safety Permit to enter these areas.

Q: What happens if my vehicle fails to comply?

A: Non-compliant vehicles operating without a permit can incur daily fines. Compliance systems like cameras and sensors ensure you meet regulations.

Q: How long does installation take?

A: Installation typically takes 4 – 6 hours, depending on the vehicle, depending on the complexity of the system. Our technicians work efficiently to minimise downtime.

USEFUL INFORMATION ABOUT (PSS)

KEY COMPONENT OF THE PROGRESSIVE SAFE SYSTEM (PSS)

The PSS introduces advanced safety requirements for HGVs with a DVS star rating below three stars. These enhancements include:

Camera Monitoring Systems (CMS): High-resolution cameras that provide comprehensive views around the vehicle, eliminating blind spots and enhancing driver awareness.

Blind Spot Information Systems (BSIS): Technology that detects the presence of vulnerable road users near the vehicle and alerts the driver to potential hazards.

Moving Off Information Systems (MOIS): Systems designed to warn drivers of moving obstacles when the vehicle starts from a stationary position, preventing accidents during initial movement.

Audible Warning Alarms: Devices that emit sounds to alert pedestrians and cyclists when the vehicle is turning or making specific maneuvers, enhancing situational awareness for all road users.

Side-Underrun Protection: Physical barriers installed on the sides of the vehicle to prevent pedestrians and cyclists from being dragged under the wheels in the event of a collision.

WHY DVS COMPLIANCE IS CRUCIAL?

The Direct Vision Standard (DVS) was created to reduce road accidents involving heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) and vulnerable road users such as cyclists and pedestrians.
